I've Created A New Way To Lose Weight!

Okay...so no...not really.. But wait! There's more! Alright...okay...so I have nothing other than the same old to offer when it comes to weight loss advice.. Buuuuuuuutt... I have lost almost 24 pounds in 3 months and I have only changed a couple of things. Well more like several things, but only a couple that pertain to what goes in my mouth (I'm talking food here for the pervs!!!) Back in October my son Evan, just turning 2 at the time, broke the only scale we had in our home. I threw it in the trash and it was just never a need, so I didn't buy a new one. I also thought what good does it do to step on a scale every morning when I know the numbers won't change, because I am doing nothing to change them. I was eating like crap, treating my body like crap, and really was a poor example of health to my children at the time. To Read My Excuses Look Below Or Bypass To The Next Paragraph: 1) I was being lazy . 2) The husband and I were struggling financially a...

Lack Of Energy + A Time Change

Whenever the time changes, my internal clock goes crazy. It takes a week or so for my body and mind to adjust, not only to the actual time change, but the amount of daylight change too. I love that we gain that extra hour to sleep. I have toddlers. That hour is heavenly, especially on Monday morning. Photo courtesy of:  mazumafykc.com But coming home at 4:15 and it getting dark by 5:30...totally kills the evening for my family. My kids loooooove to be outside. They have bedrooms full of toys that rarely get played with because they would much rather play outside. They cannot stand that it gets dark so early because we are forced indoors earlier than we prefer. They are adjusting, but they are not happy about it one bit. They have watched more T.V. in the last two evenings than they have all summer. But I decided to take advantage of being indoors to get my house organized before Christmas. My goal has been to clean and re-organize at least one major room of the ...

Stream Of Un-Consciousness..?

Ever been so tired that it feels like your eyelids are sand paper...and with each blink you lose another layer of moisture...? Toothpicks just are not enough to hold these steel doors that keep slamming together on my face. Yea . That's me today. Monday. Hope I don't nod off. *Startles awake* No... I was not snoring. Just checking that my nasal passages are clear. Ugh. Monday. Have I said that yet? I decided that it would be a great idea to stay up until three this morning. But now, I am really questioning my abilities to make good decisions...                                                ...especially when I know that I have to get up for work at six! I have never felt more inclined to the saying "Old enough to know better." My body is screaming for sleep. I wonder if I could sign up for a sleep study today? Will they give doctors notes...

The DivaCup! A Gal's New Best Friend? or Foe?

I have recently returned to work after taking about a year off to stay home with my babies again. I work in an office full of men, I am literally the only female , other than they occasional customer. And even then those are far and few between as I work in what most would call a "heavily male populated workforce". It doesn't bother me, except where bathroom issues are concerned. We all know that men and women have very different bathroom practices, as well as expectations when it comes to cleanliness. Not saying all men or women are the same with bathroom hygiene, just different. But that's not the issue I am trying to get to...another blog another day! No I am talking about that time of the month. The most dreaded week of every woman's month. SHARK WEEK ... !  ... DUN DUN DUN ! Well that's what we have deemed it in my household anyways! To the point ...there is nothing more embarrassing than being the only female in an office and bein...

My Eating Disorder

My battle with food is a battle I will fight for the rest of my life. I know this. I hate this. But I can win at this. I traded one eating disorder for another it seems. I went from overeating and eating my feelings, to obsessing over calories. MyFitnessPal helped me to lose weight. But I realize just how much calorie counting has consumed my life. So I am deleting MFP. I refuse to fall victim to a life of calorie obsessing.  These questions have plagued me daily for several years now: What my intake should be? How much did I burn? Does it fit my macros? Should I eat back my burned calories? What is the calories in this bite? Will I have enough for a small dessert? Will this blow my daily sugar/salt/fat? It is an endless bombardment of obsession over calories! I am done! I don't want food to run the rest of my life. I want to enjoy food without fear. But also respect my body to only give it what it needs, with the occasional treat on the side. I have decided I am going t...

Fell Off The Wagon & Hit My Head

Oh boy. I fell off the wagon. And I fell hard. Think I may have hit my head on the wheel on the way down. Because it has been at least a month since I worked out. And my eating...well...it is bad. I forgot how much it sucks to look in the mirror and be disgusted with myself. I haven't been in this mental state of self loathing in a long time. I know I have been unhappy with my weight for a while, but last night as I rested my hands on my gut...I knew it was time to get my ass in gear and do something about it. Do something to make myself feel good about me. My husband tells me I'm beautiful. Barely keeps his hands to himself, and I could never love him enough for it. But I am so unhappy with my appearance and I know he pays for it. It is time to stop feeling sorry about myself. It is time to lose these 53 pounds.  It is time to gain my self respect back. It is time to love myself again. It is time to be a role model for my daughter. It is time for change. I am disgusti...

Saturday Afternoon

So instead of going out for a long walk/run on this amazingly beautiful Saturday afternoon...I find myself cooped up in the car waiting for Dustin to finish playing in the junk yard. Thankfully there is a great breeze coming in through the windows, and the kids have decided they are going to behave. With that said...I am completely content. My man is in his dirty greasy car part element, my babies are cool and enjoying the peace and quiet of the country, and I am happily blogging while listening to the Gator vs. Tennessee game. Go Gators by the way! It is days like this that I am so thankful for the amazing life I have been provided. I am even more thankful for a healthy and happy family. And, in reality,  who could ask for more? How many people in the world are taking for granted this wonderful life we are each given today? How many people are stuck at work? How many are struggling with personal issues? Health issues? Money issues? Or just unhappy in general? I used to worry i...

Crap Days, Crap Diet...Oh Poo

Today was a very tough day for me, but an eye opener nonetheless. I have neglected my blog, my page, my goals...and most importantly myself. I decided to go back to work about 6-7 months ago. The kitchen in the office was full of junk and sodas, we ate out all the time, and it was SO easy to fall back into old habits that I had worked so hard to change. So easy. And so disappointing. I am disappointed and disgusted with myself. I have put on weight. I have put on 20 of the 50 pounds I worked hard to lose. But what I gained in pounds I lost in employment. Let's just say it was a crappy day. Thankfully I have a good man by my side that supports me in everything I do, and now I can get myself back on track...and spend more time with my beautiful family. But it lit a fire under my butt the size of Texas!!! *** I am enrolled in school, class begins on the 29th! *** I have re-written my weight loss goals and health plan. Even though life is a little undetermined at the momen...

Silly Little Alarm

I have been slacking so bad when it comes to fitness. I started a full time data entry job about 9 weeks ago, and after working and having to come home and take care of business here...well I'll make my excuse now...I'm too tired to workout. Been eating poor...here's my next excuse...because I haven't made the time to plan well balanced meals. Tonight after looking at myself with disgust, I have set my alarm. I am going to get up at 6:30am every morning and go for a walk/jog. The kids will be asleep so I can't use them as an excuse, and starting the day off on a healthy note will help me be more conscious of my food decisions. I'm excited to get back into the groove of things, and sad I have been putting it off so long. So say a prayer I don't hit snooze on that silly little alarm.

Fitness Is Their Second Nature

As you may know I have two very beautiful and perfect reasons for getting healthy and changing my life. I do it not only for myself but for them, and Dustin, so that I am around to see all their great milestones and achievements in life. When I began this journey, I was the only one involved. I made myself separate meals, worked out alone, and didn't push to make it a family change. Then I began to realize that it was making it ten times harder for me. All the bad food laying around tempting me. Seeing them soak into the tv and couch. I knew if I didn't make this a family thing, Scarlett would be like me in 20 years. Overweight and trying to figure it all out via Google. I started slowly weeding junk out of their diets. We never allowed her soda or much candy anyways, so thankfully I didn't have to kick those bad habits. I started cooking more healthy meals with lots of veggies. Introduced her to quinoa...which she loves. Included her in the cooking process. And poor Dust...

Weekly Weigh-In

So it's Thursday...the day I have designated for my weigh in. Now I am not an advocate for the scale, because the scale does not always tell the truth. Non scale victories are far more important than any number on a scale. Don't let that number define you and all your hard work. My NSV (non scale victory) this week was fitting back into my size 12 jeans! Woohoo! They're a little snug but anything is better than maternity pants! But I also had a scale victory this week. Last week I weighed in at 196.8. This morning I actually weighed in at 194.8, a 2 pound loss, but I didn't photograph the scale until after breakfast, so I won't count it. Instead I'll count the after breakfast shot which was 195.4...*sigh lol* Either way it's nice to see it move down after watching it go up for 9 months!

Yummy Eat-Out Dinner!

We went out to Applebee's for dinner tonight..and I rarely eat out simply because it is not in the budget plus I hate to waste my calories! However I figured it has been a while and it would be nice to treat myself. Before we left for the restaurant I got online and researched their menu..I love Google! They have what I call diet friendly foods..which are dinners that are only 550 calories a piece. HOORAY!!! There were only a few to choose from but they all sounded yummy. I was torn between salad, steak, chicken, shrimp..there are quite a few. I decided on the sirloin with garlic shrimp, garlic potatoes and broccoli. The steak was 7oz and a recommended serving size is 4oz (not to mention the 6 shrimp), so that was a bit much. However there was about a cup of broccoli and 1/2 cup of potatoes, which is pretty accurate. When trying to spot good portion sizes at a restaurant think like this: 1/2 plate veggie, 1/4 starch, 1/4 lean meat. That is basically what I was served. ...

Number 1's and Number 2's (Reader Beware)

This is a sensitive subject, even more so for is ladies, the bathroom.. Dun-Dun-Dun! *cue scary music* But in all seriousness this really is something we never want to discuss. I know I never did..not until it all changed drastically. When I was eating whatever I wanted and however much I wanted I was never 'regular' and fought constipation regularly. When it came to urination there were smells, colors, things it shouldn't be. Ever had any of those problems? Of course you have! We are human its part of the package unfortunately. But one thing I have learned is all the ugliness of it is 100% diet related. If you put garbage in it..your body will put garbage out of it! As I said before the first thing I did was started downing water..practically drowning in it. Well I started peeing every 5 minutes, literally. It started out (TMI) yellow, then pale yellow, and finally clear. It went from having odd smells to no smell. Amazing in my opinion..no more stinky pee! Not to men...

Whole Wheat Apple Muffins

One of the greatest fears that most people have about eating healthy is that famous saying: "If it tastes good it is bad for you, spit it out!" also "Eating healthy is expensive!" ...And that is the biggest pile of poo I have ever heard. Everything  I cook is delicious and well worth sharing. I also have a mere $200-250 grocery budget for 3..and we make due each month! So I will share some of my favorite recipes here and there, as well as my favorite markets to buy cheap and affordable food! This is my all time favorite (and Scarletts) dessert recipe! Enjoy! WHOLE WHEAT APPLE MUFFINS   1 1/2 c. all purpose flour, divided 1 1/2 c. peeled, chopped Golden Delicious apple 1/2 c. whole wheat flour 1/3 c. firmly packed brown sugar 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 c. skim milk 3 tbsp. vegetable oil 2 egg whites, lightly beaten Vegetable cooking spray Combine 1/2 cup all purpose flour and apple in a bowl, tossing gently to c...

How to start: Portion Distortion

Once you begin a life style transformation, and started sucking down water, its time to find your motivation. Mine was seeing myself categorized as obese, and perhaps yours is the same. Other things fueled my fire like my daughter, my love, and my mortality! People die at such young ages now because there simply is no drive to be healthy. Everything is fast food, easy access, and microwavable. And when we think we need to lose a few quick pounds is easier to fad diet then change bad habits, or learn portion control. No need to lie, that is not why I am here, I tried SlimFast trying to kick start my weight loss. I figured the structure and simplicity of this 'miracle' meal replacement would help lose the first 20 pounds, and teach me how to control things. All it did was cost me money, lost a couple pounds, and a headache. Sure it was easy all I had to do was drink 2 shakes a day, eat 3 small snacks, and one well balanced 500 calorie dinner..and BAM lose weight! Well it didn...

Where To Start:

As a stay at home mom I spend a lot of time talking to a one year old, and while she is funny and smart, she is not quite the conversationalist yet. Her gurgles and giggles consume my day from eight in the morning until eight at night, pretty much around the clock. Since she was born I have been on the go, with hardly anytime to myself, and I figured what better way to vent then through a blog, and with people that are going to understand. I also hope to help those looking to shed a few pounds! Scarlett was born in August of last year, and after I had her I began to think of all the things in my life that are good and bad, The biggest bad was my health. I was 50 pounds overweight and predisposed to diabetes, hypertension, obesity, heart problems, cancer (you name it and it is there). And I realized that if I did not change my ways I wasn't going to be around long enough to see her reach all of the milestones in her life. My Ah-ha! moment was when I went to the doctor ...
